Why Families Choose Lionheart

Our holistic learning approach

At Lionheart, we believe students learn best when they feel understood. Our tutors are more than subject specialists — they are adults young people naturally want to be around.

We bring together the best of tradition — integrity, discipline, and mentorship — with the innovations of modern education: inclusive teaching for neurodiverse learners, evidence-led methods, and a focus on complete wellbeing and purpose.

A future-proof investment

Our approach shapes not only strong academic foundations, but the self-belief and intellectual agility that prepare students for life’s next chapters — at school, university, and beyond.

Our Key Aims

How we support students for GCSEs & IGCSEs

Each and every student that comes to Lionheart will have a unique learning goal. We excel at identifying areas of weakness, strengthening subject knowledge, and sharpening exam technique. Alongside this, we build the habits that matter most at GCSE and IGCSE level — from structured revision plans to confident essay writing and time management.

  • Building confidence & filling gaps

One-to-one tuition allows us to address specific areas of difficulty, resolve misconceptions, and rebuild confidence. Students leave each session with tools they can use independently — and the assurance that progress is being made.

  • Exam preparation & technique

Our tutors teach the skills that make the difference in exams: time management, structured answers, and familiarity with past papers. By the time exams arrive, students are not just prepared — they are calm, strategic, and confident.

  • Stretching high achievers

For ambitious students aiming for top grades, our tutors go beyond the syllabus. We encourage deeper analysis, critical thinking, and subject extension, laying strong foundations for A Levels, the IB, and university entrance.

  • Specialist support for SEND

Many of our tutors have extensive experience working with students with special educational needs, including dyslexia, ADHD, and autism. The one-to-one format gives students the time, structure, and patience they need to thrive — while maintaining high expectations and genuine academic challenge.

Our latest results

Taken from our 2024/2025 cohort

Your GCSE & IGCSE questions answered

  • What’s the difference between GCSE and IGCSE?

Both qualifications are recognised equally by top schools and universities. The main difference is that the IGCSE has a slightly more international outlook and often features less coursework and more emphasis on final exams. Lionheart tutors are experienced in both pathways and will adapt tuition to your child’s specific syllabus.

  • How many hours of tutoring do you recommend?

This depends on your child’s goals and timeline. Some families choose weekly lessons throughout the academic year; others opt for short, intensive programmes in the run-up to exams. We’ll advise you after an initial consultation on what will work best.

  • Can you help with GCSE resits?

Yes. We support students preparing for November or summer resits, offering tailored programmes that focus on previous weak spots while rebuilding confidence and exam technique.

  • Do you work with students internationally?

Absolutely. We work with families across the globe, offering online tutoring that matches the same high standards as our in-person provision. Our tutors are experienced in supporting international students who may be new to the UK exam system.

  • Are tutors familiar with my child’s exam board?

Yes. Our tutors have detailed knowledge of all major boards — AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, and Cambridge — and ensure teaching aligns precisely with the specifications your child is preparing for.

  • What should I look for in a GCSE Tutor?

No two great GCSE tutors are identical, but as a guide, they should have:

    • A strong academic background (usually from a leading university)
    • A proven track record of GCSE success
    • Expertise in your child’s exam board
    • The ability to engage and inspire your child — the best tutor is both knowledgeable and a personality fit.
  • Does my child need to do anything specific for IGCSE revision?

IGCSEs are often more exam-focused, so timed practice papers and structured revision schedules are key. Our tutors integrate these into sessions, while also supporting with content mastery and stress-management techniques.

  • Are you able to provide intensive summer courses?

Yes. Many families use the summer to consolidate learning or get ahead for the next academic year. We offer tailored holiday revision courses — from short booster programmes to full preparation plans.

Hear from our families

For over three decades, we’ve had the privilege of supporting families through their most important educational decisions. Here’s what parents say about their journey with Lionheart.

Just a quick note to say thank you to the whole team. James has his place at Latymer and we honestly couldn't have done it without Sarah's guidance. She knew exactly when to push and when to ease off - something we never quite mastered as parents! The mock interview session was particularly helpful in building his confidence.

The Thompson Family

Thank you so much for arranging the mock interview. Having someone who actually knows what schools are looking for made such a difference to Ben's confidence. He went into his Hampton interview knowing exactly how to structure his answers and when to expand on topics. The whole process felt much less mysterious after that practice session

Claire and Tom H.

As parents, we were drowning in 11+ advice and conflicting strategies. Lionheart cut through all the noise with clear, expert guidance tailored specifically to our daughter. The difference wasn't just in her results - it was in her entire approach to learning. She's now thriving at St Paul's Girls' and still uses the study techniques they taught her.
