Why Families Choose Lionheart

Subject specialists across the IB

Our tutors are IB experts, not just generalists. They know the differences between HL and SL, understand the mark schemes, and guide students through the exact skills needed for success — from structuring economics essays to mastering HL maths proofs.

At A Level, that often means guiding students to think independently, debate with confidence, and connect their studies to the wider world.

Balancing rigour and wellbeing

IB students juggle six subjects, extracurriculars, and the CAS programme. Our tuition builds resilience and structure while keeping perspective, so students avoid burnout and feel confident in their progress.

Our Key Services

How we support students for IB

Each IB journey is unique. Our tuition is designed to meet students where they are — whether consolidating HL content, refining essay skills, or balancing the demands of coursework and exams.

  • Subject-Specific Mastery

One-to-one tuition across Higher Level and Standard Level subjects, from Maths AA and Biology to English Literature and Economics. Tutors focus on both content fluency and exam technique.

  • Extended Essay (EE) Guidance

Calm, expert support in topic selection, research strategy, and academic writing — helping students craft essays that are rigorous, original, and well-structured.

  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

We guide students through the critical thinking skills TOK demands: framing arguments, integrating perspectives, and producing essays and presentations that stand out.

  • Internal Assessments (IAs)

Practical, structured tuition on planning, research, and writing across subjects — ensuring students meet the IB criteria while retaining their own voice.

  • Exam Preparation & Revision

Tailored revision plans, past paper practice, and strategies for managing time and stress in high-pressure exam settings.

  • University Applications

For students aiming at Oxbridge, Ivy League, or top global universities, we provide specialist coaching on personal statements, interviews, and admissions tests.

Your IB questions answered

  • What subjects do you cover at IB level?

We cover the full IB Diploma Programme — Maths (AA and AI, HL and SL), English A Literature and Language, Sciences, Economics, Humanities, and Languages. In addition, we offer specialist tuition for the “core” elements: Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and Internal Assessments. These areas often determine top band scores, yet are rarely given the same attention in school timetables.

  • Can Lionheart tutors support both HL and SL students?

Yes. Our subject specialists tailor their approach depending on whether a student is working at Higher or Standard Level. For HL students, this often means going beyond the syllabus to strengthen critical thinking and prepare for top university entry.

  • Do you help with IB coursework, like IAs and the Extended Essay?

We guide students through the process, from crafting a research question to structuring analysis and polishing the final draft. For IAs, that might mean showing how to apply methodology consistently; for the EE, it’s about balancing original insight with academic rigour. Crucially, we don’t “do” the work — we help students learn the habits of independent research that will serve them at university and beyond.

  • How do you approach TOK (Theory of Knowledge)?

Many students struggle with TOK because it feels abstract. Our tutors break it down into manageable steps: framing a knowledge question, selecting clear real-world examples, and developing a line of argument that flows logically. We also coach students in finding their own voice — the difference between a 6 and a 7 often comes down to confidence in tackling ambiguity rather than trying to “play it safe.”

  • Do you work with international IB students?

Yes. Many of our families are based overseas, and our tutors are used to supporting students across time zones. Several of our team have taught in international schools themselves, so they understand the unique challenges — from balancing bilingualism to adapting to different school cultures — that IB students often face.

  • When should we start IB tuition?

Starting early in IB1 helps students build solid habits — particularly in Maths and Sciences, where concepts build rapidly. However, many families also come to us in IB2, when coursework deadlines and exam preparation converge. We adjust accordingly: early tuition tends to be about depth and clarity, later tuition about exam performance and stress management.

  • Can tutoring help with IB retakes?

Yes. Retake students often don’t need “more content” — they need a new way of approaching the content. We focus on past-paper strategy, exam psychology, and the specific skills examiners are looking for in each subject. With focused guidance, it’s common to see grades shift significantly in a single retake cycle.

  • Can IB tuition support university applications?

Absolutely. IB results are a central part of competitive applications, but they’re only one piece. Our tutors and consultants help IB students align their coursework, Extended Essay, and subject choices with their future ambitions. We also provide guidance on UCAS, Oxbridge, Ivy League, and European universities, ensuring each student presents themselves authentically — and compellingly.

Hear from our families

For over three decades, we’ve had the privilege of supporting families through their most important educational decisions. Here’s what parents say about their journey with Lionheart.

Just a quick note to say thank you to the whole team. James has his place at Latymer and we honestly couldn't have done it without Sarah's guidance. She knew exactly when to push and when to ease off - something we never quite mastered as parents! The mock interview session was particularly helpful in building his confidence.

The Thompson Family

Thank you so much for arranging the mock interview. Having someone who actually knows what schools are looking for made such a difference to Ben's confidence. He went into his Hampton interview knowing exactly how to structure his answers and when to expand on topics. The whole process felt much less mysterious after that practice session

Claire and Tom H.

As parents, we were drowning in 11+ advice and conflicting strategies. Lionheart cut through all the noise with clear, expert guidance tailored specifically to our daughter. The difference wasn't just in her results - it was in her entire approach to learning. She's now thriving at St Paul's Girls' and still uses the study techniques they taught her.
